Reality
The wasteland had been exactly what he needed, he knew that, and yet, now that he was back reality was too. Like the fact that his younger brother was becoming a father, today. The labor had started in the middle of the night so here he was, awake before the ass crack of dawn to sit with his brother. He wanted to be happy for him, he did, yet in reality it hurt because it meant his brother had a family.
Duke had always been indifferent to having his own kids, it wasn't something he needed but he had thought, based on conversations that he would be there for Death to have Koi's child and they would raise the child together. It had been the plan, but never the right moment. Now the chance was gone and sometimes he wished he had a part of Death here with him, no matter how selfish the thought.
He was excited for his brother but also sad to realize that he didn't know what was coming in his life and if he would ever have a nuclear family again, children or not.
