Muffins, Music, and a Baby on Board
“I’m sorry, ms, we don’t have any muffins with lemon curd today. Can I get you something else?”
I’m not a sensitive person. Normally. But today I cried for three hours over a flipping muffin. It’s official, I have reached that stage of pregnancy where I want the world to burn if I don’t get what I want. I’m in my third trimester, belly out front like a proud headline, still dragging my boots across stages night after night while our baby girl kicks along with the fiddle breaks. And all I can think about between soundcheck and encore is muffins. Blueberry. Chocolate chip. Hell, even bran if that’s all you’ve got. Just give me a muffin and nobody gets hurt.
I can’t bend down to put on my own damn boots without making a noise like an old porch door. And yet—when the lights go up and I step out there, guitar in hand, I feel unstoppable. Me, my husband grinning from side stage, and this tiny country star in the making, kicking along like she already knows the beat.
So yeah, I’m tired, swollen, muffin-obsessed, and maybe a little crazy. But I’m also the happiest I’ve ever been. And I already know—this little girl is going to have rhythm in her bones and sass in her soul. Just like her daddy.
