break me like a lobster, to be reborn as a new me.

The kitchen around him was a mess. A whole chaos of baking supplies, half-finished dough and flour scattered all around him on the floor, so when his sister entered the room her surprise could hardly be hidden.

It took her a moment to take it all in, then she silently moved over with careful steps and, without a word, wiped some of the flour off the sideboard to sit there. They remained silent for another moment, simply existing next to each other, before the older eventually broke the silence that hung heavy in the room.

"Wanna talk about it?", a question so simple, unarming and yet so hard to answer.

Did he?

Chewing on his bottom lip, Kazuki was weighing his options: He could have kept silent, knowing fully well, that his sister was aware of something being wrong or he could have told her, risking that she wanted to show up at his school to tell everyone off.

No.

"It's nothing. The boys at soccer today have been making fun of me, but...", he took a deep breath and forced a smile back on his face. It wasn't too bad anyway, right? They could talk all day, as long as he didn't let it affect him, everything was fine. Right?
The boy frowned at the thought, but instead of poking deeper, Hotaru just nodded, making him breathe a sigh of relief.

"Alright, let's clean this up then before mom gets home. But...",

She didn't finish her sentence and yet they both knew what she had been about to say.

Kazuki knew he could always talk to her. And that she would help him, if needed. But he was thirteen and growing up, it was time that he learned how to face his problems on his own, rather than to rely on his older sister.
