The Top of the List (and What's Next?)

(He just raises an eyebrow, unconvinced. Fine. Be that way. But a good plan is a good plan and I know we can pull this off...)

...But I can’t get him to swap that clown card for a Let's Do It card.

He just sighs a real, audible sigh, which is basically a monologue from him and gestures around our current safe house, which is really just a damp concrete box. He’s right. I know things didn't exactly go... smoothly after the last big one.

We had to disappear for a long while. Maybe that little punk who called me a CERTIFIED MANIAC was... slightly... a tiny bit... right.

The problem is, our silence hasn't been cheap.

We're in the rebuilding phase. While we've been lying low, we’ve also been doing some research. You know, poking around. We’ve had to hit a few small-time spots a couple of recording studios, a back-alley importer just to keep the lights on and get the new gear.

I look down at the few marbles clinking in my pocket. It's not enough. Not for what I have planned. You can't pull off a job like Fort Melvin with pocket change.

"See?" I tell Xiaobao, rattling the marbles. "This is why we need a real score."

He just shakes his head again. He wants to keep laying low. Keep to the small stuff.

But I know the truth: to get the kind of marbles we need for the really dangerous jobs, we're going to have to make some noise. And as long as we have to stay hidden... well, we're just delaying the inevitable.

Now, about that warehouse...
