Surfin' Life

Ever since I got my surfboard, I've been trying to learn how to surf and I've fallen and hit my head more times than I can count, but I've learned one thing from it.
Some people think surfing is just about riding the perfect wave, but I've discovered that the real learning is in the struggles. It's losing your balance, falling, swallowing water, and sometimes losing your consciousness but still getting up and paddling again. Because, deep down, it's not much different from life.
Practice makes perfect, I guess. But not the perfection of never making mistakes, but rather the perfection of learning to get up faster, stronger, and more consciously. Perhaps perfection lies in accepting the waves that knock us down. Wiping out is an underappreciated skill. Because no one talks about it, but falling is part of the process. It's in the fall that we learn to breathe deeply, wiping out teaches us to start over, to respect the sea, and to respect ourselves. It makes us trust that the sea always brings back those who don't give up.
Life, like surfing, is made up of unpredictable waves. Some knock you down, others carry you farther than you imagined. We have to keep up and not giving up on the board.
In the end, we realize: it's not about taming the sea, or life, but learning to flow with it.
And damn I am flowing, and loving it!
