The last few weeks have been an avalanche. One of those slow-building, silent types you don't even notice it's started until you're already buried and breathless. A wedding. A birthday. A confession. All of it crashing down before she could even catch her breath. Somewhere between the madness, she started peeling her skin back - figuratively and literally. Said goodbye to old ink etched into her body like ghosts she was too tired to carry. Names. Symbols. Memories that once meant love, now just burned like bad branding. She let the lasers eat them. Watched them fade out of her skin like they never mattered. Because they don't. Not anymore.
The wedding? That invite had been sent way before any of this got serious. Back when she barely knew what she was doing - when he was more of a fantasy than a feeling, when all she really wanted was to have the hottest guy in the room next to her, someone who belonged only to her for one night, even if it was just for show. And maybe a distraction from the ache under her ribs. She hadn't expected him to say yes. She definitely hadn't expected him to show up. But he did. And the moment he did, something short-circuited in her skull. He looked too good to be legal, too dangerous to be safe, and suddenly she couldn't see anyone else in the room. Didn't want to. Didn't care to. The second his hand skimmed her back, her skin lit up like he'd carved his name into her spine. Every glance from him made her feel like her skin didn't fit right. She just wanted more. More heat. More touch. More of the man who looked like he might set her whole life on fire, and she'd let him.
