20... Are we still counting?
Just a year ago, I was still happy with how things were going — how much laughter there was between us. But this year, everything feels different.
I don’t know when it changed, or if it ever can again, but I don’t feel like myself anymore. I’m no longer the Anita who once captivated her husband. No longer the Anita who smiled and laughed at every little thing.
And you know what? The kids grew up — so fast I barely noticed. Gustavo has already left home, and Melissa doesn’t come in for cuddles like she used to.
When I see the way Gustavo looks at Gun, and how Gun looks back at him, I realize — oh Kobe, how much I miss that feeling.
That feeling where the whole world disappears. When it feels like no one else exists but the two of you.
I miss getting flowers for no reason, and putting them in a vase like they belonged in the heart of our home. I miss the simplest kind of attention.
I’ve been married for 20 years, and we’ve been together even longer.Was I unhappy all those years? No. I was happy — really, deeply happy.But that happiness doesn’t reach me anymore.Do I regret those years? Not at all. For so long, everything truly was beautiful. I felt loved. I felt needed.
But now? I don’t even know if we’re still counting the years. I don’t know if anything can still change.
I just know one thing: I can’t live like this anymore.
I just fucking want to feel alive.
