I think there's a flaw in my code.

The next time he actually showed up at the office was a couple of days after christmas. Christmas decorations had just started to disappear from displays and the little snow, that had painted the city white for a day or two, had vanished basically over night.

It wasn't even unusual. He would often go days or even weeks without dropping by, depending on the projects he had been assigned to. Sometimes he'd even just go in for a chat. However, the little box sitting on top of his desk when he arrived, carefully placed next to the batch of cookies, that he had now been staring at for a whole ten minutes, definitely was.

Fortunately it was late enough for the office to be almost empty, only Chiharu was there, nibbling one of the cookies.

There was no note attached to the box, but it didn't require a mastermind to figure out who had left it there.

Inside? - A custom camera strap. Nothing huge, but surprisingly well-thought through, considering he had just gone back to using the default one, after his regular strap had broken.

"Ugh, I told you it was a bad idea.", he huffed, running his hands across the back of his neck before letting his forehead touch the desk. A deep sigh, meeting a complete lack of understanding.

"Why? We get cookies every year."

"Did you also get another gift?"

Chiharu snorted. "No. But I wouldn't say no to it either. You needed a new one anyway and it looks nice, seems to be of good quality too, no?"

"That's not the point. I told him that it's not going to mean anything, he didn't have to give me any extra gifts." And yet he did. Of course he did and the photographer wasn't even sure why it annoyed him so much.
It was a nice gesture after all and sometimes, maybe, he really would've liked more of these simple things. But as usual, he was looking for it in all the wrong places.

Pushing the gift box into his bag, he grabbed his coat and... paused.
"Let's go."
