backstage confessions to wmu
every pre-show starts with me sitting on the floor, pretending i’m centering myself when i’m actually just procrastinating. i have a few rituals tho - nothing dramatic, i just walk in a little circle before going out. one spin. always one. don’t ask me why, i don’t trust the answer. i also take one sip of whatever bottle someone left behind like it’s holy.
sometimes misty, my new born, starts crying exactly when i’m supposed to go onstage, like she feels the drama in the air and wants her moment too. i respect it. star quality runs in the family.
oh, and i don’t go onstage without calling my girlfriend first. ever. she’s usually across the world, lesbian relationships tend to be long-distance by default… anyways. sometimes she answers, sometimes it’s just her voicemail, sometimes she’s yelling at someone in spanish in the background. whatever form it comes in, it’s enough. that’s the only part of me that isn’t negotiable.
i leave my mess on the floor and take only one thing with me: whatever she said on the phone. everything else, i let them wait for me here. the stage gets the version of me i choose.
and it’s usually the hottest one.
