She didn’t forgive me.
And yeah, I guess I deserved that. I tried poems, paint, bad coffee, worse timing… But at the end of the day, you don’t get a standing ovation for showing up late to your own story.
I met the guy, by the way. The guy. The one she’s with now - even though they’re both telling me they’re not an item. Blake. I was ready to hate him. Practiced a few glares in the mirror, even had a couple sarcastic comebacks loaded and ready. But you know what? He’s... fine. Polite. Normal. Stable. All the things I’ve never been in a crisis. And the worst part? He looks at her the way I used to - before I went and wrecked it all.
I won’t pretend I’m ready to walk away. I still want her. Stupidly and endlessly. But I won’t stand in her way. If she’s happy, really happy, then that matters more than my ego or another sleepless night.
