two girls, one family

One of Augustine’s favorite afternoon rituals was watching Gia and Dolly play together. There was a special giggle Dolly reserved only for when Gia was around, a sound that always made Augustine smile. This little girl, full of heart and fire, had brought so much love into both Dolly’s and her own life. And now, as Gia was turning eleven, the bittersweetness of seeing how quickly the girls had grown weighed heavily on her mind.

She knew Sid was going through his own whirlwind of emotions, both of them relying on each other for comfort, feeling the tenderness and joy of realizing how far their little family had come. One thing was certain, Gia was so loved by Augustine, just as much as Dolly was loved by Sid, and she loved Sid for that.

As she watched the girls play, Augustine felt a wave of emotion, but there was something else, something she and Sid hadn’t shared with the girls yet. She absentmindedly turned the ring on her finger, lost in thought.

She wondered how the news would affect the girls. It wasn’t just about timing, it was about their reaction. How would Gia feel? How would Dolly react? They had been a family for so long, but this was different. She wasn’t sure if the girls were ready to know yet, or how they would handle the news. It wasn’t a simple thing to say.

With a deep breath, Augustine pushed those thoughts aside. Today wasn’t the day. Today, she reminded herself, was about Gia. It was about celebrating her, making her feel as special as she truly was. Today, she only wanted Gia to know how loved she was, how much she meant to her, and how much she had brought into their lives.

So, with those thoughts put away for now, Augustine joined the fun, helping Dolly with the decorations, the treats, and a special request for a movie night.
