Love vs. Pathological Attraction: Scientific Facts

Let’s get scientific about love. The difference between love and a simple crush or pathological attraction is much clearer than we think.

Love is characterized by deep emotional intimacy, trust, and mutual respect. It activates brain areas linked to long-term bonding and areas involved in decsion making and empathy. So it ain't just about feeling good but it’s about maintaining a strong, supportive connection over time.

In other words true love give us emotional stability, shared values, and long-term commitment.
And our brain release cool neurochemicals such as Oxytocin “bonding hormone”, dopamine and serotonin.

Pathological attraction, often mistaken for love, is driven more by infatuation than genuine connection. This type of attraction causes an imbalance in emotional regulation, often leading to obsessive thoughts, jealousy, and emotional dependence.

In other words when you feel Obsessive thoughts, idealization, and emotional rollercoasters it ain't real love but pathological shit all the way!

And your brain releases neurochemicals such as Dopamine but like when you do drugs, cortisol (stress hormone), and norepinephrine

Here, you might feel intense highs like euphoria but also intense lows like anxiety. This is often rooted in the brain's need for validation, not genuine love.

The real distinction between love and infatuation lies in the neurochemistry and emotional depth. Real love grows from emotional intimacy, respect, and time, while pathological attraction tends to involve obsession and imbalance.

To sum up: real love is built on a stable foundation, while pathological attraction is a rollercoaster your brain thinks it wants to ride forever. But in reality? It's better to skip the emotional chaos and aim for the calm, rewarding ride of true love.
