The stars in me, are the stars in you
Ten years ago tonight, I told you to make a wish on the stars for the first time in your life. We sat together nervously, standing under a sky that did not yet know our names. I watched you close your eyes... I remember thinking I would never want anything more than the way you looked right then - hopeful. I whispered to the stars to please allow you stay.
Tonight, in Stockholm, it feels like the sky remembers us.
The city is glowing - cold and beautiful, but it is the stars that pull at my heart. Your hand finds mine like it always does, warm and steady; and for a moment I swear I can see our past selves standing beside us. Two younger adults with many dreams and no idea how many of them would come true.
I thank the stars out loud this time. For laughter in the many years. For the quiet mornings and the incredible nights. For our Milo, who carries entire galaxies in his arms, and for Remy, small and new and shining, like the universe gave us a piece of itself to keep.
Maybe we do not need the stars anymore. At least, not in the same way. Our wishes walk around the house now, leave toys on the floor, and fall asleep in our arms. But I still hope the stars keep working overtime for the ones who don't yet know how their lives will turn out.
For lovers. For dreamers. For anyone bold enough to look up and whisper please in the dark.
And because I know the universe is always listening.... I close my eyes and make one last wish anyway.
Not for more things.
Just for time.... to keep dancing in the starlight.
For our love to transcend farther than the stars ever could.
