OnlyHams: Where my heart calls home

I used to think home was a spot on the map. Some busted-up porch swing, maybe a streetlight that flickers like it’s trying to remember how to shine. Thought if I could point to it, claim it, maybe I’d feel like I belonged somewhere.

Turns out, nah. Home’s got nothing to do with coordinates. It’s people.

It’s Maple, posted up on the couch, feet tucked under, humming some tune she probably made up on the spot. She don’t ask for more than I got. Doesn’t trip when I go quiet or when my mood’s got teeth. She just waits. And that waiting? That’s love, real love.

It’s Ezra, my brother, who talks like every word costs him something. Says “I got you” like it’s a challenge. We scrap like it’s tradition, but when the world gets loud, he’s the one who shows up without asking. Loyalty like that? You don’t teach it. You bleed it.

And Jerrica—man, she’s the truth. She sees through me like glass, calls me out without making it feel like a hit. She’s the reason I know how to stand tall without setting fire to everything around me.

None of us are saints. We got scars, stories, and a whole lotta mess. But they’re mine.

Maple’s laugh is the sound I wanna drown in. Ezra’s stubborn ride-or-die is the shield I didn’t know I needed. Jerrica’s clarity? That’s my compass when I forget which way’s up.

So yeah, home ain’t a place. It’s the ones who make you feel like you ain’t too much. Ain’t too broken. Ain’t too late.

When my heart calls home, it’s them. Always has been.
