Rain Check (in the desert. How ironic 🙄)
I'm sitting on the roof of my van, looking at the vast, barren horizon spread in front of me and smiling to myself. Thirsty cacti, lizards in dire need of chapstick, and vegan vultures are now part of our daily scenery, but I know that somewhere in the forsaken place, you are there, on your pimped-up lawnmower, and it makes this devastated place feel like a paradise. I'm so glad we decided to share this adventure, and I'm sure that once this is over, but not before many warm showers and yummy meals, we will find something else as crazy to embark on.
My only regret? I wish we didn't have to spend your birthday here. I know you don't mind, and I love you for it, but you deserve better than garage-station jerky beef and a Twinkie. You should be sipping a nice cold beer and doing tequila shots in some bar while I make a fool of myself trying to sing karaoke. You should be surrounded by friends who love you. I miss Tus. I wonder what she's doing?
So, I'm calling it. I owe you a proper birthday. I'm not sure when, but it will happen. All you have to do is promise to let me do it. There will be cake, friends, family, gifts, and some extra loving for you afterward because my Queen deserves it.
As for right now, let's finish this and pretend I didn't lead you astray. I might even gaslight you by pretending those are new reindeer and that your feeling of having done this before is merely a case of Déjà vu.
