i'm sounding like an old cliché.
The shop seemed shy on the first days, almost like Florian himself. Some people stopped by the door more out of curiosity than necessity. Some came in just to smell the flowers and left without buying anything.
In the second week, a woman returned to buy flowers for her deceased husband's altar. She said she'd never seen such well-tended chrysanthemums. That made him happy. In the third, students bought small bouquets to decorate their rooms. And when the first larger order arrived, an entire arrangement for a wedding, Florian stayed up all night, with Shiro sleeping on the shop's couch, waiting for them to leave (even though he'd told Shiro it was okay for him to go first).
The months passed, and the doorbell no longer gave him butterflies. He learned to recognize the new customers by their walks, to know who liked delicate roses and who preferred the strong scent of lilies or the delicate appearance of daisies. And little by little, they began to know him as 'the kind florist with the beautiful smile'.
Shiro would almost always show up at the end of the day, bringing food or simply stopping by to help close the doors. Sometimes, the two of them would end up sitting on the floor, eating fallen petals, laughing about little things. There was exhaustion, both from work and uni, but also that sweet sense of the future.
And at the end of each day, when Shiro held his hand, Florian could still feel his heart beating fast -- as if it were always the
first day.
