don't you want to go out and do something fun? one of her classmates texted her in the middle of the night.

even though she didn't live with her parents anymore and hadn't for a couple years, that didn't mean that she didn't have to deal with her father's security constantly tailing her. somehow, she doubted it was like this for her brothers, but she had never brought up the subject in front of her dad, mom, or step-parents. she didn't think that any of them would listen to her.

it was hard to wrap her brain around the fact that as the sole daughter of someone as powerful as her dad, she could be an asset to him as much as she was his favorite daughter. she tended to ignore that fact because she wanted to live more recklessly (which was laughable, because she was so much of a bookworm and introvert that she rarely went out with friends at night).

a low sigh escaped from the girl's glossed lips as she stared at herself in her full-length bedroom mirror. her outfit was cute, in her opinion. she would probably attract a lot of attention if she went out like that. she had never dressed for the eyes of other people, though. she always dressed for herself.

the problem was that if she didn't blend in very well, she wouldn't be able to slip away from her security. it was fucking annoying.

she had always been a little socially awkward and anxious, but she liked to blame it on the fact that she had been coddled like a princess in a high tower for the majority of her life. she didn't feel like she could do anything without a brother, an uncle, or her dad noticing.

there were eyes everywhere.

it was a good thing that she was becoming a professional at sneaking around. it was the only way she could hold onto the tiniest shred of normalcy in her life. she had to learn how to evade like any common thief in the night.

violet really wished she had a normal life.
