The waiting room smelled like disinfectant and wilted flowers.
Maggie sat stiff in her chair, jacket pulled tight across her chest.
It came in waves, the dizzyness. She finally had gotten worried enough to see a doctor. They asked the usual questions about sleep, diet, drinking, smoking and stress, noting all of her answers on the computer which stood inbetween.
“Is there any chance you might be pregnant?”
“No. I mean, that’s not… it’s not that.” she dismissed it fast.
"Hm, well, let's do a blood test either way, I can see it's been a while since we've done that and you're not a very regular guest, miss...Goddard?"
Some minutes later, Margaret sat in the phlebotomy room, her jacket laid on a chair in front. The nurse tied the elastic band while Maggie stared at the ceiling tiles, waiting for the sting of the needle.
