Cool Kids take NY

Two birds, one stone: New York for New Year, and then also for Gael's birthday. Which he totally knew was coming and it wasn't a last minute addition to the schedule, how dare anyone say that!

Fireworks, celebratory cakes, walks in the park, and all of the other sights. He'd even been brave enough to try one of those gross hot dogs they tried to pass off as actual meat. Wouldn't be doing that again in a hurry, but at least it was crossed off the tourist list.

It was a funny town; cosmopolitan, but in a completely different way to the London streets he was used to. More brazen, somehow, like passers-by were putting on a show for you. Everything and every one seemed just a little bit elevated somehow, slightly unreal. Not in a bad way - it was quite enjoyable, if a little exhausting, but very much giving the impression of somewhere people came to reinvent themselves, to try out new identities, to be a little bit... more.

The quieter nights were still the best bits though. When they'd retreat indoors, borrowed keys barely turned before their own private little NY escape eclipsed anything the city outside had to offer.
