I thought I wanted to be a tattoo artist. I thought I had everything figured out: ink, skin, scars made into something permanent and beautiful. But one afternoon in the university library I got completely lost in the wrong section. Psychology. Trauma. Case studies that weren't meant to be read like novels and yet I did. I couldn't put them down. And the more I read, the more I felt like healing.
And just like that everything shifted. Another road: child psychology. Hypnosis. Scars, but not the kind you can see.
I've spent years learning to listen to silence. Most silences are patient. You wait and they reveal themselves. Most children are easy to read. They pretend to hide, but their silence has seams. A drawing, a question, a toy left on the table... something always opens them.
And yes, sometimes their stories sit on me like stones. Sometimes I walk home carrying weights that don't belong to me, but I know the shape of that burden. It's all too familiar.
