Sweetest of 16ths
The party itself was held at home, of course. Family. Her moms, sisters. Grandparents. Few friends. There was cake, there were presents. Those damn musical playing cards that have their tunes get stuck inside your head. Sophia's 16th birthday.
She had graduated from school. With decent papers. She knew she needed at least that, she hadn't been able to totally slack it off totally to stay on the track for her future dreams. There had been the senior prom, and she had had a great time there, so glad to have
a really nice date for it. But school and all that was done now. There'd be few she'd stay in touch with for sure, those few friends she had made, but most of the people from school she wouldn't really miss.
At some point of the celebrations
her mom had pulled her aside, leading her into the study. It was a strange gesture, but, you know, it was a family thing. Sort of a rite of passage. There her mother had reminded her about the family that they were part of, even with their surname not suggesting that. The Baklanovs. Sophia's mom had learned about being part of that family only when she was 18, but it was actually tradition to let the family members in on some things when they turned 16. So, there was Sophia now.
"I'm sure you've noticed that we, as a family, are pretty wealthy. It's partly because of Bella's musical career. But it's not all that. I heard about all this really only from my own father some years ago. The original family patriarch, Dimmy, had grown up in poverty. And he didn't want anyone from his family to have to go through it again. So, Sophia. You now have access to few bank accounts. You can't go on a shopping spree for private jets and mansions, but you never have to worry about money. You can do what you want in life", her mother had said.
And then she showed the details about the bank accounts. Alright then. So, Sophia was a millionaire now...
