Final Year at London Schools

She stood in the mirror in the bathroom. She guessed this was good enough. As always. The light make up. Her long hair. Jeans in a light sweater. She stared at the young woman looking back at her. The one with her father's eyes.

Kaia didn't think she'd ever stop missing him. She didn't think she'd ever stop wondering about her mother. Wonder if the places she'd been in London if she was ever there. There was so little she knew about her. Only her father's stories.

Em and Raj were wonderful, understanding of the situation of how they had adopted her. Em had said that they loved her like she was their own, but no one could ever take away that she had parents prior to them and a home in India. That she lived 12 important formative years before coming to their home.

Home. This place felt like it in ways, but not. Home inside this house, but she felt so different at times from the kids she went to school with. Her sort of cousin Sage included. Loud and Bubbly and somewhat carefree. Sage's worries seemed small sometimes even if she treated them like a mountain. But she was kind to her and her friend, opposite as they were.

It was odd to think next year would be so different. University. On the pre-med track. She wanted to be a doctor. Of what concentration - she hadn't quite decided yet. She wondered if she'd fit in more in university. Or if it'd be more of the same. Who knew.

"Kaia - are you ready to go for me to drive you to school?" Em called.

Kaia took a breath pealing away from her father's eyes reflected in the mirror. "Yeah, I'm ready."
