All them witches - Part I
It's been a couple of years since he saw his cousin, mainly because Jo tried to distance himself lest he drag him down into his own shit. Jo thought that
Virgil admired him too much, when actually Vi himself kept a measure of distance too. But that night, Vi needed some quality coke to impress his girl. Jo tried to hide his disappointment; it stung that he called him just for that. Was he using it now? He figured he'd better get Vi sorted himself and provide him with clean coke and not the fentanyl laced crap he might find on the wrong corner of LA.
It was past midnight when Jo arrived at the address. Usually he'd send someone to deliver the goods, but he wanted to meet Vi, at least to say hi and see what's up. Meeting at a music studio wasn't a surprise either, but the goosebumps he felt when he saw the drum kit, acoustic padding, guitars, mixers, cables... it was something they used to talk about when they were teens, playing punk covers in the garage. He couldn't recall how long it's been since he drummed. Jo didn't bother to greet anyone else but his cousin; he wasn't there for them, though the girl with the red locks who sat at the back seemed
cute.
He told Vi not to pay; he brought only a few Gs and would rather not have him turning into a junkhead. Jo couldn't help but be a little condescending about it and even told him not to buy coke from anywhere else. Totally killed the vibe for Vi; he didn't like being belittled by his cousin, especially not in front of his girl. He didn't get why Jo was being an ass but it was Jo's feeling of inadequacy. Deep down he felt like the loser, wanting what Vi had: passion, music, being able to earn doing what he loved, stability, and parents... not seeing the chaos Vi was dealing with himself.
"So what have you been cooking up here?" Jo asked, curious about the music they were making, trying to break the ice.
