The little bistro café hummed with quiet chatter, plates clinking, the warm aroma of coffee wrapping the space in comfort. Chieko sat across from Masaomi, the steam from her cup fogging her skin slightly.

Chieko stirred her tea absentmindedly, the spoon clinking against porcelain. The exhaustion from the night’s set at the bar lingered in her limbs, but Masaomi's laughter softened the edges of her fatigue.

“So,” Masaomi teased, leaning forward, his phone still glowing faintly on the table between them. “If those flowers weren’t from you, then who? You hiding something from me, Chii?”

Chieko blinked, caught off guard, then let out a small, tired laugh. “If I was, I’d be terrible at it.” She leaned back in her chair, gaze drifting toward the window where the city lights blurred in the night drizzle. “Besides, flowers don’t suit me. You know that.”

Masaomi tilted his head, studying her with a look too soft to be casual. “That’s not true. You’d make them look better just by holding them.”

The words hung between them, heavier than Masaomi had intended. Her cheeks warmed as she busied herself with slicing into her cake.

Chieko's fingers tightened slightly around her teacup, her lips pressing into a faint smile—gentle, but distant. She let the moment slip by without answering, choosing instead to change the subject. “We should rehearse that new song tomorrow. I think the crowd might actually like it.”

Masaomi only nodded, but in his chest, his heart beat a little too fast for the quiet café.
