Three years ago today was the first time I ever saw you. I've never really believed in love at first sight, and I still don't, but what I do believe that sometimes you can meet someone for the first time and just know the universe placed them there for you to find, because it knows what you needed. Three years ago today you were without question, placed for me to find you.
I know love is work, love is commitment, love is staying the course no matter where the rough moments of life try to take you, and love is also paying attention to the small things, laughing together, and making space inside your heart to hold another whole person within its walls even when you never imagined you could find that space again. I know that to have a full formed affection, to truly love someone you have to accept that everything that makes those gears turn is the good and the bad, and together it makes a fully functional, in my case, man.
If I was compromised of only gears, you would be the one that made every single one turn, and in ways no one else ever has. I want to spend my life trying to be your better half, which, I will bloody fail at because that better half is you, but I won't ever stop trying because you deserve the best of everything, including the best of me.
I love you. I love you until this beach disappears, and even when this whole world no longer exists, there will still be my love for you, standing right here in this very spot and I will look at you long enough, and I will find myself believing in love at first sight.
