Maybe it’s time to be smarter
In Spain, there’s a saying: “De buena que es, es tonta.” Roughly translated: “she’s so kind, she’s stupid.” And honestly? lately, I’ve started to wonder if that shoe fits a little too well.
I’ve always liked helping people, especially new artists. I’ve shared my knowledge, bought equipment, paid for transport, offered help and support without anyone asking, simply because I believed in them, not for recognition, not for applause, just because I could.
But sometimes, I look around and realize that loyalty is a rare currency. People forget. They move on. And the same ones I helped from zero, now act like they built their ladder alone.
I don’t regret giving and I never will. But maybe it’s time to give a little more wisely. To protect the energy, time, and resources I’ve worked so hard for.
From now on, I’ll still be kind and generous, but with boundaries. The "Free ride" tour ends here. Next stop: figure it out on your own.
If that makes me “less nice,” so be it. Anyway I'm not here to win any philanthropy trophies.
