You’re Not Ready | #LasEastham

Haruko sneaks into her mother’s office. For several weeks now, the atmosphere in the family had felt strained, as if something wasn’t quite right—or worse, as if something had veered off course.

–What secrets are you hiding, mother?– she murmured as she carefully searched through the drawers of Alayna Eastham’s desk. The Castelo had been remodeled and expanded until it became one of the largest and most luxurious mansions in Rio de Janeiro, as well as a labyrinth of secrets that seemed to elude even those who bore the surname.

Nothing. There was nothing. Just adoption papers, schedules for photo shoots completed and pending, countless appointments with businessmen and... a crossed-out name. One very familiar: the main investor behind the Eastham name.

–Is that all? I don’t think so– Haruko kept searching. She opened each drawer five times, tapped every single corner until... –Aha!

A false bottom. Haruko forced open the hidden compartment. Inside were the plans for the Eastham restaurant in Rio... and another business that looked highly profitable.

–Haruko!– her mother shouted, entering the office with commanding posture. They locked eyes in silent defiance, but neither backed down. –Leave. You’re not ready to know everything yet.

Haruko obeyed with a sullen expression. This wasn’t over yet.
